A collaboration between composer Elijah Culp and pianist Jacqueline Rasmussen, Able is a prospective new suite for solo piano, where every performer in their unique bodies and individual abilities can express what "virtuosity" means to them.
We're seeking to fund a consortium to help us reach the final barline of the composing process and mount the piece's premiere. As artists and instrumentalists, we both deal with forms of chronic illness and disability, which directly impacts our approach to our craft. In this work, we hope to interrogate the relationship between notions of disability, ability, and virtuosity and reimagine a more inclusive notion of each concept.
The Kickstarter Campaign is scheduled to go live on Friday, April 18th, and run for 30 days. If you'd like to support this project, you can access our campaign here. I'm hoping to reach the final barline by October 2025, and mount the piece's premiere in January of 2026.

This past March, I was given the opportunity to visit the Yellowwood Forest in Indiana on a guided hike courtesy of the combined efforts of Indiana University's (IU) Composition Department and IU's Biology Department. Based on this experience, I, along with 3 other composers, were tasked with creating new works for String Quartet. To celebrate this fruitful collaboration, these new pieces will be premiered on April 26th at 11:30 am as part of the Nature Walk Concert. The concert will be held at the Arts Alliance Center (2894 East 3rd Street, Bloomington, IN, 47401). Please consider coming out to support!
In reaction to the changing world around us, I'm teaming up with librettist (and composer!) William Rand on a major work for choir and orchestra that speaks to the cycles of violence and exploitation that continue to plague societies around the world, and hinders our ability to create communities with our friends and neighbors.
Work on the composition will begin during the summer of 2025, and the piece is estimated to have a premiere in the Spring of 2026 as part of my master's recital.
