Able - Piano Suite

A collaboration between composer Elijah Culp and pianist Jacqueline Rasmussen, Able is a prospective new suite for solo piano, where every performer in their unique bodies and individual abilities can express what "virtuosity" means to them.

As artists and instrumentalists, we both deal with forms of chronic illness and disability, which directly impacts our approach to our craft. In this work, we hope to interrogate the relationship between notions of disability, ability, and virtuosity and reimagine a more inclusive notion of each concept.

A Kickstarter Campaign to help fund the work went live on Friday, April 18th, and after 30 days, we hit our fundraising goal of $6,200! We’re planning to reach the final barline by October 2025, and mount the piece's premiere in January of 2026.
